Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Rancho del Oso 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"Although still tightly-knit and backward, the dense purple-tinged 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso is bursting with abundant loamy soil/earthy terroir notes. Like many of these offerings, it represents a very fine value in high class Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Composed of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, this offering from one of the great heritage sites in northern California possesses sweet blackberry, black cherry, dusty, loamy, earthy notes intermixed with hints of spice box and unsmoked high class cigar tobacco. Full-bodied with abundant sweet tannins, this 2007 will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well for 15-20+ years...91" WA 12/10

Sbragia Family Vineyards:
I've had for some time, a small, family-owned winery making limited, individual lots of wine from grapes grown in select blocks of my favorite vineyards. I've always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally. I'm more attached to Dry Creek because it's where I raised my kids. But the wines that I've made at Beringer are like children, so Napa is also a very special place for me. Either way, the wines are intensely personal, an expression not only of terroir, but of my family's winemaking heritage. -Ed Sbragia   Come visit us at our beautiful location at the end of Dry Creek Road. Our winery is perched on a hillside, overlooking the entire valley with sweeping views from our terrace. Guests are invited to bring a picnic or purchase light deli items from our tasting room and enjoy the sunshine and vineyard views. Seated Terrace Tastings are now available by appointment. Sbragia Family Vineyards prides itself on its single vineyard varietals and small case production. Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the wines are made from vineyards owned by the Sbragia family, but do include select vineyards from Sonoma and Napa Valley as well. Our wines have received many accolades and are considered some of California’s best. The only thing better than the view is the wine! Read less

Earthy and loamy on the nose with fine underbrush tones, a hint of thyme then pipe tobacco and cedar roll in over light vanilla and wood spice tones. The black currant fruit is tight, focused and in harmony with the savory elements of the nose. Pin point balance in the mouth with rich black fruits, blackberry and black cherry spreading across the palate accented by some very fine soil and subtle herb tones. This is really lovely in the mouth, firm yet filled with fruit, supple yet taut with some coffee bean and spice tones emerging on the backend. The finish is a bit short at the moment with the wood tones extending beyond the fruit but that works itself out with some air. 93pts

Bright red fruit and clay aromas have a hint of baking spice. I went back for a second glass of this. It's bright and commanding wine, with great acidity and a good balance of rich fruity chocolate and blackberry flavors and savory olive flavors too. Very good.

Really dank grassy nose, the mouth is a little bit closed, but brings in some interesting wood, floral, and blueberry notes. If you're into the funkier wines, this is for you.

beautiful color, ok nose, taste a lot of black fruit and then a quick blanket of tannins that mutes it, but doesn't erase it. nice finish.

Good full ruby-red. Plum, currant, tobacco leaf, dried herbs and graphite on the complex nose. Like liquid rock in the mouth, with currant, licorice and woodsmoke notes enlivened by powerful minerality and well-integrated acids. Suave, mouthfilling c... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Longtime head winemaker for Beringer Vineyards, the man who turned out many hugely successful Private Reserve Cabs now makes his own Napa Cab and clearly he has the touch. This single vineyard offering from Howell Mountain rivals wines at twice the price. Robert Parker scored it 94 points and said "...the dense purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Rancho del Oso (an 1,800 foot elevation vineyard) is composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Sweet blackberry, black cherry, plum, anise and crushed rock aromas jump from the glass of this opaque purple-colored wine. Broad and full-bodied on the palate with hints of white chocolate and subtle oak/toast, it reveals terrific fruit, texture and opulence. Drink it over the next 20-25 years." Very Limited!!

Saturated deep ruby. Aromatic nose combines plum, cassis, dark chocolate, licorice and herbs. Deep dark fruit flavors are complicated by graphite, licorice and dried herbs, plus a hint of minerality. This shows firm acidity for Howell Mountain, along... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2007 Sbragia Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rancho del Oso 750ml
