Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Rancho del Oso 2004
Owned by Betty O'Shaughnessy, this vineyard is located at the very top of Howell Mountain and is named after the red bear that climbs the deer fence and swims in the reservoir. I love the big fruit flavors and unmistakable intensity of Howell Mountain fruit. Please call winery (707) 473-2992 for ordering information.
Currant, black cherry, dark chocolate, nicely balanced, fruit forwarded new world cabernet. Very nice wine, but in my opinion for US$60 you get better deals.
Excellent aroma with a very pleasing finish, one of the best cabs I have had to pleasure to enjoy.
That is, a big mistake to leave the other two. When I went back a week later they were gone. Oh well, I shared a good wine at a great price with someone else who found a real treat.
Bought 2 of this at a great closeout price of 19.35, went back and bought 6 more, leaving 2 on the shelf, big mistake
Okay, this was a great wine. On a reccommendation we drove up to the top of Dry Creek Valley, soaking in the stunning view, and already thinking it was a blessing. Then the wines came, and finally, this 2004 Monte Rosso Cab was the last we sampled but also our favorite out of many "wows." To top it all off, the winemaker and his son, Ed and Adam Sbragia came out and took some time with us, patiently answering questions and getting to know us as well (have to say thought that Peggy knew her wines and was gracious in equal measure). It is everything that the other reviewers have detailed here, plus a beautiful location and gracious hosts. The wine was already an A, then the experience bumped it up to an A+. Then, we came back the next day around closing time, to have one more glass on the patio, and enjoy the view. Good move. More good wine, more time with the team and family here, and late afternoon sunshine bathing the Dry Creek Valley.

Wine Advocate ReviewAn outrageously superb Cabernet is the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Wall Vineyard from Mt. Veeder. Blueberry, blackberry, scorched earth, charcoal, and truffle scents soar from the glass of this opaque purple-colored offering. Tasting like a Cheval Blanc blended with a Grand-Puy-Lacoste, both on steroids, this full-bodied, heady, rich wine is pure, sensationally concentrated, and loaded with potential. It will drink well for 20-25 years.Wine Spectator ReviewRated 92Offers fresh, pure aromas of red currant and black cherry. Smooth, even plush on the palate, with a tight focus to the flavors, firming up and flexing its tannic strength on the finish, where this ends with a loamy note. Drink now through 2013.International Wine Cellar ReviewRated 91Good ruby-red. Aromatic nose combines cassis, licorice, violet and minerals, along with a loamy nuance. Sweet, round and ripe, with impressive body and power. The acids are ripe and harmonious, but this wines substantial tannins will require patience.
