Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Cimarossa Vineyard 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Rich sweet milk chocolaty covered nose with deep notes of integrated wood spice and some very sweet pipe tobacco. There's a nice light floral edge to the red fruit here and a slow to emerge base of earth builds in the glass. The fruit is really very curranty, black and red. Plush on entry but firm with well integrated acids lending nice clarity in the mouth. this is richly fruited and nearly perfectly proportioned, though still youthful. The fruit is bright, precise and fresh with lovely tannins adding detail and a nice tactile impression on the palate. Powerful and earthy this drives through the long finish with a blend of toasty oak and earthy fruit notes. It's a little hot on the finale but delivers alot of flavor and intensity in a rather streamlined and complex package. 92pts

I've had for some time, a small, family-owned winery making limited, individual lots of wine from grapes grown in select blocks of my favorite vineyards. I've always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally. I'm more attached to Dry Creek because it's where I raised my kids. But the wines that I've made at Beringer are like children, so Napa is also a very special place for me. Either way, the wines are intensely personal, an expression not only of terroir, but of my family's winemaking heritage. -Ed Sbragia   Come visit us at our beautiful location at the end of Dry Creek Road. Our winery is perched on a hillside, overlooking the entire valley with sweeping views from our terrace. Guests are invited to bring a picnic or purchase light deli items from our tasting room and enjoy the sunshine and vineyard views. Seated Terrace Tastings are now available by appointment. Sbragia Family Vineyards prides itself on its single vineyard varietals and small case production. Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the wines are made from vineyards owned by the Sbragia family, but do include select vineyards from Sonoma and Napa Valley as well. Our wines have received many accolades and are considered some of California’s best. The only thing better than the view is the wine! Read less

Very herbal and floral nose, with cedar notes. Cherries, dark fruit and berry flavors. Dense, intense and concentrated. Finishes very long, with some nice smokey oak rounding it out. I paired this with a grilled coffee-crusted tenderloin and it was perfect.

Super dark color, almost black. The nose was pure blueberry and black cassis. This is huge. Very rare that I open a young'en up and say 'This is too young!" This is that time. There is much happening in this black hole of a wine. Graphite, leather, tannins, blueberry, cassis, chocolate, tannins and the blackest-berry I ever encountered. There's also some sour cherry In the mix. All very primary and fresh. There is a touch of menthol here too. The balance is awkward and clumsy. 2-3 years will bring this one together nicely. For $27 this is a great deal. Drinks at least as well as many $60 bottles I have had. (This happens to remind me just a bit of the 2005 Rivers-Marie). The blackest Andolsen I have had from Sbragia.

Bright purple tinged edges on a ultra dark background. The nose reveals a certain breed of cassis that is pretty and floral. The palate shows the same cassis/currant but with the added dimension of boysenberry and super dark cherries, slight cocoa, and tat. There is a wonderful mouth feel that carries this forward. A great finish completes the package. This will surely benefit from a year in the bottle. For $26 this is a great QPR that belies its price tag. I have had the 2003 and this is less in your face and a more serious wine four square.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 91The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Andolsen may be one of the finest Dry Creek Cabernets I have ever tasted. Aromas of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, spring flowers, and background toasty oak are followed by a wine with terrific purity, medium to full body, wonderful sweetness, and a silky finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. Drink this superb value over the next 15 years.Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91The 2004 was soft and immediately enjoyable. This 05 is tannic and better structured and needs some time. It displays a wealth of black cherry and currant flavors. Hold if you can until after 2008, and should develop well for an additional 4 years.Wine Tasting NotesThe 2005 Andolsen Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of rich black fruits, cassis and a touch of leather and dried herbs. Bright black cherry on the palate is accentuated by hints of cedar, brown spice, tea and mocha leading to a balanced mouth with firm tannins, good structure and a fruit-driven finish.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged 18 to 24 months in French oak and is100% varietal. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Andolsen possesses more black raspberry, blueberry, and currant fruit, less earthy notes, ... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2004 Sbragia Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Andolsen 750ml
