Woody, jammy and intense with a touch of obvious alcohol on the nose. Big and round with a soft entry, fairly intense acids here are not entirely integrated, lots of extract, lots of extracted tannins on th finish which continues to show some heat. Big and powerful with intense flavors of rosemary tinged, slightly baked plum and blackberry fruits but the structural disarray keeps this from fully appealing. Perhaps some time will help. I am not convinced.

2-3 hour decant. Not a very expressive nose as it probably wasn't fully opened up yet, but there's good, pure dark fruit on the palate with plenty of spice and the alcohol & acidity are all in nice balance. Medium to full bodied. Subtle but persisting finish, medium tannins. Nice showing. 94 points.

A full-blown tour de force, pure, ripe, rich and focused, delivering blackberry, huckleberry, boysenberry and spicy mineral notes that are dense without being heavy. Layered and intricate, this is smooth, detailed and long on the finish. Syrah, Grena... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2007 Saxum Broken Stones 750ml

Deliciously rich and layered, full-bodied and well-structured, with a complex core of blackberry, huckleberry, anise and mineral flavors that take on a tar and graphite edge on the finish, where the tannins give this traction. With considerable power, depth, and intensity, this is sensational stuff, as is the 2007 Bone Rock James Berry Vineyard, another candidate for perfection. A blend of 82% Syrah, 13% Mourvedre, and 5% Grenache, it exhibits abundant aromas of blue and b... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Winemaker's Notes:

Our Broken Stones cuvee is always Syrah based, with a large portion of Grenache and a splash of Mourvedre. Aged for 18-20 months in mainly new French barriques, it is full-bodied, rich, and intense, but also has great purity, focus and complexity. It is the only wine we make that is a multi-vineyard blend, utilizing all the vineyards that we source from. Like all our wines, they are never racked off their lees and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
