- Jean-Marc Pavelot told me that unlike many of his neighbors in the Côte we did not suffer much hail damage here in Savigny except in La Dominode. But it was necessary to sort very carefully anyway and I'm very happy that we bought a sorting table just before the vintage. Historically, we have always sorted in the vineyards but now we can sort twice, which obviously improves the quality of our raw materials. This was particularly important in a vintage with only adequate phenolic maturity to make sure to eliminate the under ripe and/or damaged fruit. We didn't push the extraction, which read more...means that 2004 will be a vintage to drink over the next decade. Still, I very much like the style of the vintage as it's pure, fresh and very terroir in basic character. Fans of the domaine will see a new wine as a parcel of Beaune Bressandes has been leased. (A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, Beaune, France - sbw@wanadoo.fr, Vinalia Imports, Camarillo, CA, Wines Unlimited, New Orleans, LA and Pas Mal Selections, New York, NY ; Domaine Direct, UK). As one would reasonably expect, this is decidedly finer with really lovely high-toned red berry and raspberry fruit aromas nuanced by obvious minerality and hints of spice and underbrush that lead to sweet, delicious and admirably complex flavors that possess excellent balance and solid phenolic maturity. This is really quite attractive and while it's not especially concentrated, this is a delicacy and finesse that I find quite seductive. (hide)
