Sauvignon Republic Cellars Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2007

Member Review by InWineTruth:

Run, don't walk to Trader Joe's, spend $7., and travel to New Zealand, with vibrant herbaceous aromas, gooseberry, citrus flavors, and a focused and long finish. Terrific wine for the price of a fish taco!

A tight focus on one varietal only. We are not trying to be all things to all people! We are committed to becoming the experts on Sauvignon Blanc and our commitment to produce it around the world in the best locations should give us unique visibility. We see wine as food. It is not something apart but there to be enjoyed with the rest of the foods at the meal. This may seem obvious but much of the promotion and sales of wine treats it as something separate from the rest of the meal. We detect, especially in these times, a longing by many of us to more fully enjoy the pleasures of the table. Wine can be an important conduit for connection and friendship. All of our activities (recipes, events, etc.) will recognize and support this view. We are active in organizations like SLOW Food, The Chef's Collaborative and others that encourage a healthy, food centered life style. The four gents involved in together bring a boatload of wine and culinary experience that should help make this Sauvignon Republic Cellars an exciting and fun operation. We are committed to innovation and practices both in the vineyard as well as in the winery that will yield the best quality wine that we can make. Our decision to use the Stelvin (screw cap) closure only on our wines is an example of this commitment. This closure is clearly superior to cork finished wines that too often suffer from incidences of cork taint. Read less

Grassy and herbal - verging on vegetal - but with just enough ripe nectarine flavors to help provide a sense of balance. It's nicely round in the mouth, with a soft, easygoing finish.

Concentrated, with appealing vibrancy and fleshiness to grapefruit-lime and grass flavors. Mineral notes and subtle passion fruit highlight the aromas, with refreshing citrus acidity. Drink now.

Lively, generous and appealing for its juicy grapefruit peel flavors, which persist into the finish. Hints at green apple and gravel as this lingers. Drink now.

Drink now.Wine Tasting NotesThis wine is a complex assemblage that showcases the diversity of fruit flavors from several growers in Marlborough, specifically the Wairau River and Waihopi Valleys. The ability to blend was a huge asset as one vineyard supplied flavors of gooseberry, nettles and fresh-cut herbs while another added celery and tropical fruit. Others contributed minerality and supported crisp acidity. The result is an interlaced, delicious wine.

Richly textured, this firm, juicy sauvignon balances sweet green-pepper fruit with a lot of acidity. For grilled shrimp with green salsa.
