The lesson I learned about De Martino wines is that they are spicy. This is yet another spicy wine. This one is smooth and hearty. Give me some dark chocolate, a basket of strawberries, A rom-com movie, and a bottle of this wine, and I'm set for the evening. 91/100

A blend of 66% Malbec and 34% Carmenere with a SRP of $45. Dark red in color with aromas of dark chocolate and concord grapes. Flavors of fruit and bell pepper, prominent flavors in both Malbec and Carmenere, seemed to be fighting each other with neither one being able to win. While I didn’t dislike the wine, I don’t know that I could justify paying $45 for it. thegoodwineguru.com

Weingut: De Martino / Santa InesLand: ChileRegion: Cachapoal ValleyRebsorten: 65% Malbec, 35% CarmenereAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol. %Restsüße: trockenInhalt: 0,75 lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°CFassreife: in Barriques gereift (14 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: 7 - 10 Jahre ab Jahrgang Auszeichnungen des De Martino Single Vineyard "Old Bush Vines Las Cruces" 2006:Silver Medal, International Wine Challenge 2008 Rotwein > Chile > Cachapoal Valley

    Winemaker's Notes:

Las Cruces, an exemplary terroir-driven wine, is a limited-production blend from one of the most unique vineyard sites in Chile. The Mediterranean climate causes these 2 varieties to ripen at approximately the same time. A selective hand-harvest took place in mid-March. Immediately pressed upon arrival at the cellar, the juice underwent a cold maceration for 7 days in stainless steel tanks at 8-10°C. Fermentation occurred over a period of 9 days at 26-28°C, followed by another 9-day maceration. Full malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine was aged in new French oak barriques for 14 months, before being filtered and bottled.

    Tasting Notes:

An intense bouquet of ripe dark fruits with intertwined hints of cedar spice and cocoa fills the nose. It is full-bodied and complex with good acidity, firm tannins and fruit and oak flavors that are well-integrated giving the wine a rounded, elegant finish.
