Saumur-Champigny Domaine de la Guilloterie Duveau 2006

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Composed largely of Cabernet Franc with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, this vibrant, freshly perfumed red has a base of earth and minerals that supports light berry, cherry and herbal flavors. It would pair well with vegetables or light cheeses, and works well slightly chilled.

Very fresh with ripe red and black fruits aromas, ending with licorice and chocolate notes. Round and pulpy, rich smooth finish..

It's mostly tourists who ask for the wonderful Cabernet Francs of France's Loire valley, because to the rest of the world, these wines are a secret. Light to medium-bodied and dry, they offer the fragrance of fresh-cut grass and snipped herbs over flavors of wild berry fruit. Best slightly chilled with light foods.

Ripe and juicy for the vintage, with a solid beam of black cherry, currant and sweet tobacco, all framed by good structure on the finish. Drink now through 2009.

"This hot weather I've created means you can only drink well-chilled white wines!" said Mother Nature. "But there are many light bodied reds from the Loire valley that are great in the summer!" replied the informed wine consumer. "What ever do you mean?" she asked. "Well, this is a vibrant and freshly perfumed red. It has a base of earth and minerals that support light berry, cherry and herbal flavors. It would pair well with vegetables or light cheeses, or it's great on its own." The wine consumer continued, "It's 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. A classic blend from the Saumur region." "Looks like I've met my match with this wine," harked Mother Nature. "Now, just wait for winter!"

Due to the cooler climate, the red wines of the Loire are often more gracious and lighter in style than the red wines of Bordeaux. They are perfect with summer foods or when you want a softer, gentler wine.
