Sassicaia 3/8 2000
Sassicaia is a unique interpretation of the Cabernet variety, a wine of great breadth, complexity and longevity. The intense blackberry and cassis aromas, offset by notes of smoke and spice, are confirmed on a palate of lush concentration underscored by firm, ripe tannins carrying into a long, elegant finish.

After a dry summer, harvest at Sassicaia began the first week of September, 2000, ending on the 15th. This cabernet reflects the sunny warmth of that Tuscan season in black currant depths. Itrsquo;s refined and supple, a black beauty held at armrsquo;s length. The discreet distance allows each taste to show all the winersquo;s elements in perfect balance; a tide of dark chocolate and black plum rolls in, an undertow of red berry and granite tannin pulls out. The flavors last, deepening even as they lift in the end, a widening chord that should only grow more resonant with age.
Shows its class. Loaded with fruit. Rich yet balanced, with lots of jammy and plummy character. Full-bodied, with round tannins and a silky finish. Exotic. Sass made excellent wine again in a less than easy year. Best after 2006.
($173) Intense dark ruby. Dark berry fruit and exotic spice scents fill the high-toned, penetrating nose. Offers a deep core of beautifully delineated blackberry and blackcurrant flavors layered with bell pepper, dark chocolate and minerals. Smooth t... Stephen Tanzer's IWC.
