Saracina was named after a centuries-old farmhouse and vineyards in Tuscany where owners John Fetzer and Patty Rock spent their honeymoon. The main ranch is home to Saracina Vineyards, a small-production, state-of-the art, California Certified Organic (CCOF) winery and the first wine caves in Mendocino County. Working with winemaker, Alex MacGregor, and winemaking consultant, David Ramey, they produce stylistically unique wines with lush California fruit and silky, soft tannins. Atrea, their second brand, focuses on interesting, quirky Rhone-style blends. Read less

Had the good fortune of doing a vertical of Saracina Sauvignon Blanc (2004-2006). The 04 had all the stereotypical SB pungency, if you like that kind of funk. The 05 took some time to come out of its shell, but bridged the gap of bright new world ripe fruit and old world terroir; while the 06, stood up and said, look at me, I'm young and sexy, like a debutante at the ball. Each of the wines had their own unique, lasting finish, but lacked the racy acidity that you would expect from such a bottling.
