Bodegas Santo Tomas might very well be the oldest winery in Mexico, established in 1888 in Ensenada, in the Valle de Guadelupe in Baja. It is named for the Mission de Santo Tomas Aquino established by José Loriente in 1791. Sacramental wines were produced here exclusively until 1888, when Francisco Andonegul and Miguel Ormart transformed it into a commercial winery. It went more industrial and moved to Miramar Street in 1932 when Abelardo Rodriguez took it over. Today, it is managed by Santiago Cosio, who strives to produce high quality wines with a sense of tradition, using modern techniques and equipment. The region is known for its excellent growing conditions, producing balanced fruit and well-structured wines.
