Santiago Ruiz Albarino Rias Baixas 2017

Winemaker's Notes:

"Clear and bright yellow. Intense and complex nose showcasing aromas of white flowers (citrus blossom, lilies), herbs (lemon verbena, aniseed), fruit (melon, pear, papaya) and subtle notes of spice. Full bodied, its fruity complexity combines with wet-stone minerality on the palate prior to a long and crisp finish. The combination of five grape varieties native to Rias Baixas makes this a wine with a uniquely distinct character." -Winery notes

Lime leaf, kiwi and guava on the slightly exotic, pungently aromatic nose. This is very bright with cutting acids that may be too bright for some people. There is a modest amount of flesh helping to buffer the acids but the light banana, lime and salty mineral flavors are acid driven and linger on the moderately long finish. This really would do well with some food, melon and prosciutto, something fatty and sweet would work well. This is good but not for everyone. 88pts

Very classic Albarino flavors - grapefruit, honeysuckle, lemon, with a slight hint of oak. Nicely balanced.

Citrus and sugar on the nose. Grapefruit and lemon on the tongue with a wonderful tart/sweet finish. Perfectly balanced. I don't want this bottle to end!

peach and citrus aromatics, a little spritz-like on the palate, some white balsamic, has a kick to it, quite unique compared to other albarino's I've tasted

Very classic Albarino flavors: Clean, grapefruit and lemon with a slight honeysuckle finish. Tastes like it was lightly oaked for a delicate toast. Very well balanced and refreshing.

The 2009 Santiago Ruiz is a blend of 70% albarino, 20% loureiro and 10% treixadura. This wine is straw yellow in the glass and offers a vibrant floral nose full ripe peach and lemons. It is a well-balanced wine with many layers of intensity that could serve as an aperitif and also pair well with heavier shellfish. This wine has a long and strong mineral finish. Santiago Ruiz is known to many as the 'Father of Albarino' and the 2009 is a great example of Albarino that’s affordable enough to be a go-to every day wine.

Very aromatic with fruity nuances of peach and custard apple as well as some mineral notes. Powerful on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and a long finish.

Strohfarben. Aroma kraftvoll, fruchtig, ölig mit Noten von reifen Äpfeln und Aprikosen, sortentypisch für den Albariño.
