What to Expect
Corvina is one of the classic grapes of the Veneto region of Italy. It is usually the predominant grape in the blends used for Bardolino and Valpolicella. Corvina tends to produce lightly-colored wines with high acidity and moderate tannins featuring flavors that recall dark berries with hints of bitter almond. Corvina's thick skins lends the grape to rasining without rot. This technique is used to produce richer and dessert styled wines such as Amarone and Recioto.
Winemakers Notes
Tasting Notes :Santi traces its origins to 1843, when Carlo Santi established a wine cellar in Illasi, near Verona and Lake Garda. The original winery, very attractively renovated, still houses the winemaking facilities and aging cellar and stands on the plain below Castello d'Illasi, a ruined medieval fortress. Santi specializes in Veneto and Trentino wines.Tasting Notes:Deep garnet red, intense dry grapes and plums with hints of spices (cloves and cinnamon) cherry jam and iris. Toasted almonds complete the finish.Food Match: Soft cheeses, roasts, game.
