Santa Rita was founded in 1880, by a distinguished entrepreneur of those times, Mr. Domingo Fernández Concha in the area of Alto Jahuel where the main installations of the winery are currently located. From the very beginning, he introduced fine French varieties, winemakers and the most advanced winemaking techniques. From the end of the XIX century until the mid 70´s, Santa Rita developed under the ownership of Mr. Vicente García - Huidobro, father of the famous Chilean poet Vicente Huidobro Fernández. In 1980, the Grupo Claro acquired the Santa Rita property, giving a strong impulse to the enterprise in all of its scope, introducing great technological improvements and wine elaboration techniques unknown in Chile at that time. At the end of the 80´s a great expansion period for Santa Rita starts, sustained by the great momentum experienced by its exports and the excellent reputation acquired by its products, which obtained important awards and worldwide recognition. You just can't beat this wine for the price. A nice everyday, affordable wine with big fruit and a smooth finish.

/ The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Casa Real was the star of the show at this Vina Santa Rita tasting. It was produced from 30-44 year old vines. This wine bursts from the glass with violets, lilies, blueberries, cherries, blackberries, and buttery oak. Its Margaux-like personality is medium to full-bodied, rich, and lush. A myriad of ripe dark fruits are interspersed with toasty oak in this intense, powerful wine. Its character brings to mind a hypothetical blend of Bordeaux and Napa Valley, with an elegantly structured, juicy core of fruit being married with a plush, muscular, opulent quality. This wine's impressively long finish exhibits loads of tannin, yet they are ripe and supple. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. Bravo! The progress made at Vina Santa Rita over the past few vintages has been truly impressive.

/ “The 120 series offers superb value. They are truly excellent wines at price – and the best 120 bottlings we’ve tasted from Santa Rita. The Cabernet is ripely flavored, and full bodied; a Cabernet with berry-like fruitiness, hints of blueberry and black currant and light oakiness.”

120 Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 - Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast/ Hickory and clove scents dominate at first...The palate is medium-bodied, with good layering and texture for $8 Cab and then woody, dark flavors of baked berry and burnt toast. Clove reappears on the finish.

120 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 - 85 Points & Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast/ You have to be impressed by its honest, round character and relatively true aromas and flavors. The nose is meaty while the palate has cassis, berry and mild herbal flavors. The feel has some chop to it, but overall this is good Cabernet at a price anyone can swallow.

120 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 - 87 Points, International Wine Cellar/ Ruby-red. Fresh redcurrant and cherry aromas, with a subtle floral quality adding interest. Juicy red fruit flavors are a touch jammy and betray none of the green qualities that are common for cabernet in this price range. Finishes with good clarity and lingering sweetness. This is a superb value and delivers more fruit punch than cabernets costing three times as much.

120 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 - 89 Points & Extreme Value, Wine & Spirits/ Surprisingly powerful and rich in fruit for its price, this offers black currant and cassis over youthfully rustic tannins. Give it some pork.
