Santa Rita was founded in 1880, by a distinguished entrepreneur of those times, Mr. Domingo Fernández Concha in the area of Alto Jahuel where the main installations of the winery are currently located. From the very beginning, he introduced fine French varieties, winemakers and the most advanced winemaking techniques. From the end of the XIX century until the mid 70´s, Santa Rita developed under the ownership of Mr. Vicente García - Huidobro, father of the famous Chilean poet Vicente Huidobro Fernández. In 1980, the Grupo Claro acquired the Santa Rita property, giving a strong impulse to the enterprise in all of its scope, introducing great technological improvements and wine elaboration techniques unknown in Chile at that time. At the end of the 80´s a great expansion period for Santa Rita starts, sustained by the great momentum experienced by its exports and the excellent reputation acquired by its products, which obtained important awards and worldwide recognition. / Dark and muscular, with lots of tobacco, cocoa, loam and currant notes supported by dense but fresh tannins. Has ample length on the finish. Not as dynamic as previous vintages, but still outstanding.

/ The 1997 Casa Real was royal, and the ’99 is even better. It’s rich, deep and lavishly oaked. The concentration is intense but it’s not overly tight or tannic. In every way it’s a dead ringer for sweet, luscious fruit-forward Napa Cabernet. Plum, coffee and cream share center stage on the stylish finish.

Drinks with Les Dames: Cecilia Torres, Santa Rita/ A great example of how well Santa Rita’s upper-tier wines can age, this one has smoothed out a bit and has taken on a lusher quality than when it was first released. Rich, ripe blackberry and currant flavors, with roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and sweet, smoky earthy notes that fold together on a long finish.

100 Best Wines of 2007/ From Carneros Viejo, a vineyard planted in 1962 on Santa Rita's estate in Buin, this traditional red has been one of the finest examples of Chilean cabernet sauvignon since the first release in 1989. The 2001 offers complex notes of leather and earth, sweet spicy flavors and exuberantly ripe red fruit. Soft and deeply concentrated, this has the potential to develop for another five years or more.

/ A classic cabernet from Alto Maipo, Casa Real offers an exuberant character in this warm vintage with aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate and cassis. The palate is tense with muscular tannins and acidity, while the fruit concentration fills that structure with charm.

/ Funky barnyard with cedar, cassis, wet hay, toasty oak, plum, and dried fruit on the nose. Inky black fruit on the palate with smooth tannins. Fatty beef; braised brisket; short ribs with spices.
