Casa Real 2004 - 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ A warm, dry vintage yielded an excellent Casa Real in 2003. The wine delivers a measured bouquet of balsam wood, violet petals, mineral and ripe berry aromas, while the leisurely palate is home to spot-on raspberry, black plum and cassis flavors. Long, oily and textured on the finish, with admirable overall structure.

Casa Real - Vertical Vintage Review, Wine & Spirits/ From Carneros Viejo, a vineyard planted in 1962 on Santa Rita’s estate in Buin, this traditional red has been one of the finest examples of Chilean cabernet sauvignon since the first release in 1989. Tight when first poured, this slowly reveals a generous range of ripe red fruit and cassis aromas with notes of black pepper and oak; its texture is defined by soft, shapely tannins and firm acidity.
/ This estate is one of the pioneers of the Chilean wine industry. It was founded in 1880 in the Maipo Valley, and was among the first wineries to introduce European grape varieties in Chile. This wine follows the recipe for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile: Start with great fruit, add some professional winemaking, and age until ready. This dark garnet colored wine shows a complex nose of dried cherries, plums, and touch of leather. The soft attack displays mainly secondary flavors of dried cherries, leather, and mushrooms and finishes with ripe but gripping tannins.
/ Deep ruby. Highly nuanced bouquet of redcurrant, cherry, cassis, tobacco and dried flowers. Juicy red fruit flavors offer very good depth and clarity, picking up fine-grained tannins with air. An impressively fresh, supple midweight that reminds me of old-school Bordeaux.
/ Deep ruby. Pungent, smoky cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by cured tobacco, cedar and dried rose. Following the nose's serious complexity, the palate follows up with sweet red and dark berry flavors and fine-grained tannins that add shape and firmness. Gaines sweetness with air, picking up blueberry preserve and candied licorice qualities and finishing with excellent sappy persistence.
/ Funky barnyard with cedar, cassis, wet hay, toasty oak, plum, and dried fruit on the nose. Inky black fruit on the palate with smooth tannins. Fatty beef; braised brisket; short ribs with spices.
