Santa Margherita Chianti Classico Riserva 2006
Deep ruby red color. Sweet aromatic sensations of wood envelope ripe, spicy fruit. Mouth-filling fruit impresses one with its roundedness and gentle tannins; sensations of ripe, sweet fruit lead into a spicy aftertaste. This is an elegant wine that reflects fully the characteristics of its terroir and is also a modern interpretation that embodies Italy's most classic vineyard area.
This one is a little young to drink, but it's still pretty good if decanted for 1/2 to 1 hour.
Very fruit forward, with flavors of cherry and strawberry bursting out on the nose. Very fruity, yet with a nice cool minerality. Soft and smooth. Warm bramble flavors. The finish is softly sweet with a chocolate finish. 100% sangiovese, yet it tastes like there's some merlot in it.
Santa Margherita is a go to in our house. I just discovered this chianti classico. I love it because it is not as tart as some chianti's I have had. Nice rich dark fruit. Great with winter beefs and stews.
