Santa Julia Viognier Mendoza 2008
Santa Julia is a label offshoot of Familia Zuccardi wines from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is named after Julia Zuccardi, daughter of chief winemaker José Alberto Zuccardi. The wines are organic (although not certified under US law) and handmade, with close attention to detail. This is an affordable range of dry and sparkling wines as well as a late harvest Torontes/Viognier blend called simply “Tardio.”
This wine has a clear and pale golden color, with thin legs. Nose has elements of apples, pears and lemons - and something else, slightly heavier that I can't put my finger on. I want to say melted butter? Tastes of lemons and sour cream, very acidic. Dryer than my normal threshold yet still drinkable - could do 2 glasses easily. Paired well with goat cheese.
