Santa Julia Organic Cabernet 2012
A round, forward red, with moderate plum, spice and toasty oak notes leading to a soft finish. Wine Spectator Familia Zuccardi has spent over 40 years establishing world class vineyards in Mendoza. Today the Santa Julia portfolio is a testament to their dedication, passion and energy coupled with innovation and experience in winemaking.
Santa Julia is a label offshoot of Familia Zuccardi wines from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is named after Julia Zuccardi, daughter of chief winemaker José Alberto Zuccardi. The wines are organic (although not certified under US law) and handmade, with close attention to detail. This is an affordable range of dry and sparkling wines as well as a late harvest Torontes/Viognier blend called simply “Tardio.”
Editorial Reviews for Santa Julia Organic Cabernet
Herbal, leathery and soil driven on the nose with a nice base of soft blue and red fruits. Rather lighter bodied than most Cabernets at this price point, this offers up some softly rustic tannins and good acidity in support of earthy and mineral tinged black currant flavors. This is fresh, easy to drink, and not particularly fruit driven though at the same time it lacks some depth of flavor and those looking for a fruity wine will be disappointed. The finish shows a little toughness and the tannins in particular are driving the spicy length. 83pts
