Santa Julia Malbec Plus 2011

Member Review by mrsrhampton:

Oh boy! Did I ever think this wine was going to be a dud! Opened up the bottle and poured a glass right away. Took a sip....and disappointment set in. Too fruit forward, bordering on the edge of sweetness, no complexity and the finish was non existent. So I open a bottle of something different and forget about it for 6 hours. I go back to it after dinner and holy smokes what a change! This wine blossomed after breathing. All that fruit mellowed out into the delicious Malbec that I was expecting. Very nicely done wine for under $8. Just be sure to decant for a LONG time. I left it overnight and who would have thought it would be even better the next day? Love this wine!

Bodega Santa Julia:
Santa Julia is a label offshoot of Familia Zuccardi wines from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is named after Julia Zuccardi, daughter of chief winemaker José Alberto Zuccardi. The wines are organic (although not certified under US law) and handmade, with close attention to detail. This is an affordable range of dry and sparkling wines as well as a late harvest Torontes/Viognier blend called simply “Tardio.”
