Santa Julia is a label offshoot of Familia Zuccardi wines from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is named after Julia Zuccardi, daughter of chief winemaker José Alberto Zuccardi. The wines are organic (although not certified under US law) and handmade, with close attention to detail. This is an affordable range of dry and sparkling wines as well as a late harvest Torontes/Viognier blend called simply “Tardio.”
Editorial Reviews for Santa Julia Brut Rose
Smells a bit candied on the nose, sweet and a touch pruny, with dried fruit notes of figs and dates along with noticeable spice elements. Creamy, soft and a touch sweet, this has super acidity to help keep things interesting. Delivers a round mouthful of strawberry fruit backed with a hint of spice, but is a bit dull in the mouth and a bit of a one trick pony. 84pts
Served chilled. Vibrant pink color in the glass. Bright aromas of strawberry and raspberry on the nose. The wine is light and crisp on the palate, maybe almost a little tart. The label says brut but the wine isn't quite that dry to me, it seems like it is verging more towards extra dry. Fine mousse. Good quality to price ratio. This is the first sparkling wine I have tried from South America and it did not disappoint. I would like to taste more of what South America has to offer in the way of sparkling wines.
Like Santa Julia's other wines, the brut rose is a great value. Upon the first smell you get a nice rocky aroma with some pleasant fruit notes. It is rather sweet though, as the first reviewer said, tastes more extra dry than brut. As far as Argentinian sparkling wines go, Santa Julia is good, but not nearly as good as another Familia Zuccardi wine, the Vida Organica sparkling Chardonnay.
Right now at Grocery Outlet they got THIS wine for $5.99 a bottle...........can't beat the deal!!!
