Santa Ana Caracter Shiraz Malbec 2010
Bodegas Santa Ana is a leading Estate from the Cuyo region of Mendoza province, high in the Andes on the Western side of Argentina. Founded in 1891 by Don Luis Tirasso, Santa Ana now boasts some of the finest vineyard sites in this area. Bodegas Santa Ana has been producing wines for the international market for many years, honing and perfecting their particular philosophy of winemaking in order to satisfy the high demands of our 'internationally educated' consumers. Ripe, soft fruit is combined with an unmistakably Argentinean attitude, creating a guaranteed crowd pleasing range of exceptionally good value for money wines. The grapes for this Shiraz-Malbec are harvested in small parcels and kept seperate throughout fermentation, which is at a cool, controlled temperature in stainless steel. Final blending takes place before filtration and cold stabilisation and bottling. There is no oak ageing for this wine. This super blend is an attractively vibrant, youthful shade of red with a fruit driven nose of redcurrants and spices. The palate is medium bodied, soft and easily approachable, offering an array of red fruit flavours with balancing structure and a dry, rounded finish. A very versatile wine which can be drunk by itself, with grilled or barbecued red meat, pizza or pasta.
This has become my favorite social wine. It is a red that is all around just right and is enjoyed by everyone who has a liking from red wine. No matter if they are a Cabernet, Merlot, or other variety, my guests all enjoy this young, fruity, medium bodied wine.
