Santa Alicia Carménère Reserve 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Undurchdringliches Rubinrot, granatfarbene Reflexe.

A core of blackberry and black currant with an edge of minerals and vegetables. Medium bodied with moderate finish with just a hint of white pepper. A very enjoyable, tasty wine.

I found the Santa Alicia Carménère Reserve 2008 wine to be thin and lacking in depth of flavors. A screw cap wine $6.99. 84 pts

No flavors of smoke or tobacco as we were expecting.

Tasting Notes:

Bold aromas make an instant impact on the nose with layers of black cherry, vanilla, mint and spices. Concentrated ripe fruit flavors fill the palate with elegant, polished tannins and a nice touch of toasted oak on the silky, long finish.

Santa Alicia, located in the famous Maipo Valley. This 100% Carmenère is made from vineyards primarily in Melipilla area. The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks for 7 - 10 days and is aged for eight months in 100% American oak before bottling and release.
