Sangre de Toro. Torres 2016

Member Review by noshooz:

Nice fruity nose, light peppery/spicy palate, smooth finish. It actually paired well with pigs-in-a-blanket.

Torres is one of the world’s most recognizable brands of Spanish wine and is 100% family owned. The company was founded by Jaime and Miguel Torres in 1870, and is now overseen by 4th generation wine producer Miguel Angel Torres. The headquarters of the winery is in Vilafranca del Penèdes in Catalonia, although the family controls several wineries throughout Spain as well as Chile and California. The wines range from entry level premiums, such as Sangre de Toro (the one with the little bull charm on its neck), to quality-driven mid and higher priced ranges, as well as dessert wines and brandies.    A large percentage of the Torres vineyards are organic and sustainable, with efforts to increase those numbers. They also contribute to wildlife conservation efforts with a fund to protect the Bonelli's Eagle in Catalonia and the Condor in Chile.  Read less

A good way to try grenache. Its a value priced deep fruit. The bitterness do not make a dent on this easy drinking biofriendly wine.

Wine and Food: Superb with roasts, casseroles, game and traditional Spanish meat dishes. Tasting Notes: Deep ruby colour with a hint of ochre. Rich complex Mediterranean aromas with exuberant notes of spices and blackberries. Velvety tannins are noted on the palate with elegant flavours of liquorice and small dark forest fruits (blueberries and blackcurrants).

With 65% Garnacha and 35% Cariñena, this spends six months in American oak and nine months in large oak vats. Medium blackberry color. Warm nose with light, attractive oak, red cherries and wild strawberries. Smooth, velvety, mouth filling cherry fruit with firm tannins and a gutsy, rustic finish. Forthright and Spanish/Catalan in style. Exceptional value.

A perennial Best Buy, Sangre de Toro always delivers a quality red-wine experience that does not bowl you over. here the aromas are light and jammy, with strawberry. The body is medium in weight and intensity, with pure but basic cherry, raspberry and plum flavors. Like all other parts of the wine, the finish is easy and clean, with carry-over flavors of berry fruit.

Medium red. High-toned aromas of cherry, red berries, mint and black pepper. Juicy and sappy, with complex flavors of blueberry, raspberry, leather and spices. A supple wine with decent weight in the mouth. A distinctly Spanish version of a Cote du Rhone, showing plenty of personality.

Good full red. Complex if slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, bacon fat, spices and meat, with a hint of surmaturité. Superripe and sweet, with liqueur-like red fruits and spices; a bit roasted but decent acidity gives definition to the flavors. Firmly structured and spicy on the back.
