A great example of Californian Pinot Noir from the Central Coast. Rich texture and medium to full body make this wine a great match for grilled or roasted meats.

Readers will enjoy a lush, sexy, smoky, chocolate/cherry-flavored 1997 Pinot Noir. Round and lush, with a dark ruby color and abundant fruit, it requires consumption over the next 1-2 years.

A ripe, supple and harmonious red with an attractive range of plum, dried cherry, anise, sage and spice, holding its focus and bowing out with a long, rich aftertaste. Very impressive - among the best of the '97 California Pinots. Drink now through 2006.

Pleasantly earthy, with mineral and dusty berry flavors that are complex, if on a modest scale. Drink now.

Fine depth, with earth, leather and coffee notes accenting the berry fruit. Fairly lean in profile, with a tart edge at this point, but good length. Best to cellar for a year or two.

The 2000 Pinot Noir has aromas of dark plums, blackberries and dark cherries. More polished than the 1999 vintage, the 2000 will pair well with traditional Pinot Noir foods such as salmon and duck, but it is big enough to drink with grilled beef.

Earthy, oaky aromas show on the nose and palate. Tight, firm and closed, with hints of cedar, lead pencil, dried berry and currant notes that slowly unfold. Needs time. Best from 2007 through 2011.

Winemaker's Notes:

This flagship wine showcases grapes from the Sanford & Benedict, La Rinconada and El Jabali vineyards. This traditional Pinot Noir pairs well with salmon, quail and duck but is big enough to drink with steaks and roasted beef ********************************************************* The Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is made entirely from estate fruit from our two Santa Rita Hills vineyards. This wine spends about 10 months in French oak barrels (20% new) and is not filtered. Fruit forward with a long, complex finish, it works well with most cuisines. This wine compares favorably with domestic Pinot Noirs and Burgundys at twice the price. Our estate Pinot Noir never disappoints. ***************************************************** Winemaker Tasting Notes The 2005 Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend from our estate vineyard, La Rinconada, and the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard next door. A mix of vineyard blocks and several different clones gives this wine added complexity. The wine is deep violet red in color and is bursting with bing cherry, raspberry, pepper and clove on the nose. The palate delivers wild berry flavors framed nicely by bright acidity and supple tannins. The wine was allowed to age in French Oak barrels (20% new oak) for 10 months where it gained concentration and picked up hints of vanilla and licorice. ***************************************************** Technical Data Vineyard: La Rinconada, Sanford & Benedict Brix at Harvest: 24.5 pH: 3.65 Residual Sugar: None Malolactic: 100% Titratable Acidity: 5.9 grams/liter Alcohol: 14.5% Suggested Retail Price: $29.00
