User Reviews for Sandeman Port Blend Porto Vintage Vau
Add your reviewVery good indeed, a fruit forward stye which is very approachable now and a good introduction to vintage port from a very good year. Opaque, vibrant purple with very intense, ripe black plum, cassis and chocolate. On palate, the signature fruitcake and sweet spices add a very rich and mouth filling texture with ripe, sweet tannins, good complexity and concentration. In perfect balance now. An affordable and hedonistic style for early drinking. Cheers!
Had this during the Virtual tasting! It was a great experience! I did not know that Ports were that high in alcohol content and poured myself a huge glass! This full bodied port with plenty of residual sugar has a smell that reminds me of brandy, caramel, a little cacao and even coca cola! Which is interesting. With bright tannins, this dense opaque dark wine is fruity with notes of plum and dried medjool dates. Yummmy. Now I wished I knew more about Ports earlier! We had a dessert potluck- Apple crisp, Strawberry nutella crepes, French silk chocolate pie, fresh baked muffins- and it was splendid! Dense and super-well structured. Great ripeness in addition to lots of black currant, cassis, and mineral characteristics. Firm tannin in the finish. Wonderful!
Love the fruit and a caramel overlay. The tannins were gentle but noticiably there. A wonderful pronounced finish.
Deep, opaque in color, velvety with great structure and firm finish. Plenty of rich fruit--currant and dried plums--and a bit of spice on the palate. What a treat.
meia garrafa. Tostados e frutas. WD: The house style begins to become apparent now. This has a similar package of sweet fruit with a molasses edge. The palate is warm, rich and very approachable, although there is still plenty of tannin in the midpalate and finish. Rich toasty fruits but with an elegant edge. Very good, excellent potential
External Reviews for Sandeman Port Blend Porto Vintage Vau
Here is a Vintage Port from the outstanding 2000 vintage that is ready to go. Vau Vintage was produced with carefully selected lots from Sandeman’s estate vineyard, Quinta do Vau as well as other top vineyards in the region. Wines showing beautiful fruit in a precious, forward framework were blended creating a lush elegant young port with good balance and structure. Aged two years in oak barrels as designated by law and bottle aged since then, bringing a soft supple richness and layers of complexity that unfold on your palate. Robert Parker rated this Vintage Port 90 points saying “The dense purple-colored, seriously-structured 2000 Vau Vintage reveals outstanding ripeness in addition to abundant amounts of black currant, cassis, and mineral characteristics as well as firm tannin in the finish. Fuller-bodied, richer, and significantly more impressive than its sibling, it will drink well between 2007-2020.”
The Vau is the name of a river in Portugal and also the name of this particular port that is a vintage port made in a style that's much more accessible than a typical vintage port. No need to wait, it's enjoyable now.
Quinta du Dao is the top rated vineyard site for Sandeman. Drink now or hold for up to 10 years.
