San Polorsquo;s 2007 Rubio is made from the estatersquo;s youngest Sangiovese vines (plus some purchased fruit) in and around the property in Montalcino. This unoaked red offers plenty of varietal character in its cherries, earthiness and tobacco in an easygoing, pleasing style that is sure to find many admirers. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2011.

Shows earthy and spicy character on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins. Attractive and friendly. Sangiovese. Drink now.

There's slightly cooked fruit on the nose, but some interesting blackberry and chocolate undertones. Full and thick, with good fruit and a medium finish. Slightly monolithic at the moment. Needs a little time. Sangiovese. Best after 2010.

The estate's entry-level wine, the 2006 Rubio (100% Sangiovese) is a fresh, plump offering bursting with sweet dark fruit. It offers a warm, generous personality that is sure to find many admirers, especially given its budget-friendly price. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.

Brilliant ruby red with purple hues, this wine has an intense and persistent bouquet filled with fresh aromas of red cherries, violets and currants, followed by subtle spicy notes. Well structured and balanced with good tannin levels, Rubio is quaffable, yet notable for its intensity and elegance. This wine is excellent by the glass and ideal for barbecues.
