What to Expect

The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Winemakers Notes

The Weather conditions of the year 2004 were characterized by a very sunny but not particularly hot summer, unlike in 2003.

The vines did not suffer drought during summer, thanks to a good amount of rain during spring. The grapes reached full maturity in the first ten days of September. The whole harvest took place during sunny days.

Guidalberto is a blend of 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangiovese.

The grapes are accurately selected before being stripped and then vinified in a new cellar purposely built at Tenuta San Guido, in Localitá Vecchio read more...Frantoio.

Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless-steal vats. Maceration lasted for 17 days for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14 days for Sangiovese. The wine was then aged for 14 months in French and American oak “barriques”, one third of which being new ones.


The wine in 2004 gave excellent results from the organoleptic point of view, since the fermentation and extraction during maceration period were very successful, especially thanks to the great poliphenolic richness of the grapes. The wine is characterized by a very intense purplish colour. The nose is very long and persistant, and on the palate is already evident an very well-balanced and persistant structure. The wine is round and gentle. The combination of an important organoleptic structure and richness of polyphenols, allows us to foresee an excellent longevity for this wine.

Guidalberto della Gherardesca, who lived at the beginning of the 1800s, was an Incisa ancestor and was a pioneer of modern agriculture in the Bolgheri area. In addition to his many land reclamation projects, Guidalberto was known for his experiments in the winegrowing sector, which were already state of the art for his time, and for having planted the famous “Cypress Road” which is now a national historic landmark.    (hide)
