San Giusto a Rentennano Percarlo(2004)

Percarlo is made from 100%, estate grown Sangiovese grapes, especially selected from 6 cru zones of our vineyards, which have a low yield of 1kg (resa/ceppo) grapes per vine. To obtain a wine of such extraordinary body and concentration the grapes for Percarlo are usually allowed to mature beyond the normal degree of ripeness. Percarlo is aged in French oak barriques for 20-22 months, bottled unfiltered and held in bottle for another 6 months before being released. The grapes which go into the making of Percarlo are selected from vineyards whose soil dates predominately to the Pliocene epoch. read more...

($68) Deep ruby. Smoky, minerally aromas of violet, red cherry and blackcurrant, with hints of truffle, tobacco and pastrami. Very suave on entry, then smooth and fine-grained, with good mineral lift to the sweet fruit flavors. Sweet, lush and seamless wine, powerful yet elegant thanks to fine acidity that draws out the finish for minutes. An amazingly good, utterly textbook sangiovese that clearly communicates the greatness of this variety.

This is an intense red wine that's made from the Sangiovese grape and matured in French oak barrels for nearly 2 years. The flavors are persistent, very rich with firm tannins. A great piece of work from the San Giusto estate.

This wine has a heady bouquet. A sweet cinammon aroma. Great body and lush mouthtfeel without being too weighty.
