Fresh, pure and very fruity on the nose with layers of raspberry and strawberry fruit with hints of toasty oak spice and sundried tomatoes along with a touch of VA. A touch chewy on entry, this is slow to open in the mouth and compact with some wood tannin and sweet toast urging under the bright fruit. Cool, elegant and long on the palate, this delivers plenty of cherry fruit on the palate then turns a bit clumsy on the short, chunky finish. needs a bit more time to fully integrate. 88pts
Composed of only 2 of the many different permitted grapes, this Chianti Classico is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo. Colored a typically ruby red after 12 days on the skins in cement and steel vats, the wine matures in oak casks (75% in 5 hectolitre tonnneaux and 25% in 7-10 hectolitre oak casks). It has a typically fruity nose, with notes of red fruits, blueberries and violets. In the mouth it feels warm and dry, quite soft with a good finish. 14% ABV gives it a full body; combined with strong tannins and Sangiovese's natural acidity, this wine has excellent balance and structure.
