The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, good as it is, is rather perplexing. A dark ruby in color with much black currant fruit, mocha, and vanilla on the nose, its sizeable and supple body and its lengthy, warm, and velvety finish are those of a high class... Perhaps I caught the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino at a bad time, but it appeared very tannic with a hard finish. Interesting aromatics reveal notes of wild herbs, red fruits, earth, and cedar, but the tough finish reveals intrusive tannin. Well see h... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
