- One of two wineries on Salt Spring Island, this winery is owned by Janice and Bill Harkley, a couple who picked up savvy marketing ideas in previous careers. This wine is an example. Bill is a former airline pilot; Janice is a chartered accountant and executive coach. Noting that blends of Bordeaux red varieties can be called Meritage, they came up with the term, Millotage, for this blend of two red French hybrids. Created by the same hybridizer, Léon Millot and Maréchal Foch both thrive on Salt Spring Island. One shared advantage is that both have a natural resistance to powdery mildew which means, read more...the winery says, that this wine is made from unsprayed grapes. Fairly dark in colour, this is soft, easy-drinking wine with abundant sweet fruit on the palate – flavours of spiced plums that linger on the finish. 86 points. (hide)
