Salmon Run Meritage 2002
Composition: 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon 26 % Cabernet Franc 54 % Merlot Description: This classic blend of red Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot – extends the range of the Salmon Run into carefully crafted, age-worthy red wines. Barrel aged in mostly French oak barrels for a year, this blend offers both uncommon complexity and value. With its exquisite balance, soft tannins and smooth finish, this wine is certain to appeal to even discerning wine lovers. Analysis: Alcohol: 12.5 % Sugar: 0.2 %
I expected a fruit-dominated nose for some reason, but smoke and cloves mingle with the berry-plum aromas. The palate is similar to the nose, with low tannins (and acidity) and soft, medium-bodied mouth feel. I think there may be a little residual sugar because the finish is a little sweet and short, which keeps this from being what it could have been.
