Saladini Pilastri Sangiovese Blend Rosso Piceno 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Sangiovese grapes lie behind this wineblend from the Rosso Piceno wine DOC in Marches. The nose pings withbitter black cherry stone freshness; layered upon a lush undercoat of fruit.Indeed a marshmallow-like sweetness, along with a wave of chocolate -cherry flavours points to the small but significant portion of Montepulciano;while noble Sangiovese provides the pulse.

From the exceptional 2006 vintage! Saladini Pilastri was the first winery in the Piceno area to achieve the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Italy's wine bible, the Gambero Rosso. All the winemaking is overseen by celebrated enologist Alberto Antonini. All of the farming is done without the use of chemical fertilizers and the winery is recognized by the EU as organic. Wine Advocate raves about the wines, perpetually scoring them 90 and above. This single vineyard bottling is a blend of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese aged 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks, this wine scored 90 points in the Wine Advocate and received the Decanter Magazine World Wine award. It shows rich flavors and ripe tannins. Cherry, tobacco, smoke and mint lace the palate. Firm and full, aeration will let you enjoy it now and it's a wine that will cellar for several years to come.

This Italian red is produced by the award-winning Saladini Pilastri winery in the Piceno area of Italy that has been recognized by the European Union as organic. This lively wine has clean mineral notes with a fruity core.
