Saladini Pilastri Rosso Piceno Superiore Montetinello 2010
The carachteristics of this wine are its typical deep ruby colour, vinous bouquet and dry harmonic taste. It is produced from only the best Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes, and mellowed in oak barrels. It is a wine which is at its best served at room temperature to accompany all kinds of roast meat and game.

Dark ruby. Very fresh, inviting aromas of dark cherry, ink and sweet spices. Then minerally and more austere in the mouth, with fresh plum and blackcurrant flavors featuring a saline tang. Finishes clean and fresh, with a lingering smoky note at the back. This really needs a couple more years in the bottle to come around fully.
The 2010 Rosso Piceno is a plump, fleshy red bursting with berries, spices and flowers, all wrapped around a warm, radiant personality. It is a terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2014.
Awesome pizza and pasta wine but this also works well with sausage chicken or tuna. Medium-bodied with tart cherry currant and raspberry notes.

From the up-and-coming Rosso Piceno appellation on the Adriatic coast of Central Italy, this is a thin and informal red wine with fruity tones of strawberry and blueberry in the spotlight. A touch of sweet coffee or mocha appears as a distant accent on the close.
One of the more brooding wines in the lineup, Saladini Pilastri’s 2010 Rosso Piceno Superiore Vigna Montetinello is a big boy. Tar, smoke, licorice and earthiness fill out a baritone register full of dark aromas and flavors. Montepulciano takes the lead in this intense, rich Rosso Piceno. I have a slight preference for some of the more refined wines in this range, but it is impossible not to admire the Montetinello for its quality and overall value. There is no shortage of intensity or richness here. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2016.
