Saintsbury Pinot Noir Stanly Ranch 2010

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

Good full medium red. Muted cherry and chocolate nose begins with a low-toned caramel quality but shows smoky minerality and a cola spiciness as the wine opens in the glass. Nicely dense sweet and fine-grained with a slightly diffuse character to the cherry and dusty herb flavors. More substantial than the basic Carneros bottling (it s a full degree higher in alcohol at 14.5%) with a richer finish. But hasn t quite the complexity or energy for 90 points. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Saintsbury:
First published in 1920, George Saintsbury’s “Notes on a Cellar-Book” has inspired many to experiment widely and to form opinions unaffected by the fashion of the day. Included in those ranks are Mr. Ward and Mr. Graves, who named their winery in honor of Professor Saintsbury.

There is just enough wood to notice on the deeply pitched nose of spiced plum cassis and dried flowers. The plush opulent and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess acceptable depth but very good length. Burghound.

Soft and sweetly fruity at this time offering ripe candied raspberry cherry and red currant flavors. It's a little direct and brown sugary but shows enough stuffing that it could develop earthy mushroomy complexities in 5-6 years. - S.H. Wine Enthusiast.
