Food Pairings for Saintsbury Pinot Noir Carneros Lee Vineyard
Somewhat murky in the glass. Middlin' bouquet on the nose. Obvious pinot noir cherries on the palate. Fairly firm wine with nice tartness, some tannin. It's an OK wine, but not one I would seek out in the marketplace to get more. For some reason, though, I have two more bottles of it. This was a fairly highly rated wine in the press. So, maybe I have to try it with another meal. Drank last night with grilled Sockeye Salmon, grilled potatoes and steamed asparagus. I would like to try my next bottle with beef. $29.99 last February.

Wine Tasting NotesIn tasting through our barreled Pinot Noir we are above all looking for those lots that show a balance of tannin and acid, fruit flavors that while rich, dark-red and complex, are not overblown or leaning toward the burnt jam style of Pinot you sometimes see. Our Carneros bottling delivers distinctive Pinot Noir character in a wine of power, grace and elegance.
Tight and spicy, with a mix of herb, dried cherry and dusty berry notes. Lean and modestly complex on the palate. Drink now.
The succulent 2000 Pinot Noir possesses a multidimensional, intense bouquet of jammy sweet cherry fruit intermixed with loamy soil, subtle new oak, apples skin, and spice. Fleshy and medium-bodied, with good underlying but unobtrusive acidity as well as tannin, it is a delicious Pinot for drinking over the next 4-5 years.
Complex, concentrated black cherry and wild berry flavors are well-focused. More richness and intensity than this bottling typically shows. Drink now through 2006.
Good full red. Raspberry, pomegranate, menthol and spicy oak on the nose. Richer, sweeter and more velvety than the Garnet, with deeper flavors of red fruits, minerals and spices. Sound ripe acidity gives this pinot a very pleasing balance. Finishes sweet and long, with lush, fine tannins.
Tight and firm, with intense, focused flavors. An earthy edge gives it a tougher profile. Concentrated and flavorful, but needs time. Best after 1996.
Smooth and supple, with ripe plum, tea, tar and spice notes. finishes with a clean cherry flavor. Drink now through 2002.
