First published in 1920, George Saintsbury’s “Notes on a Cellar-Book” has inspired many to experiment widely and to form opinions unaffected by the fashion of the day. Included in those ranks are Mr. Ward and Mr. Graves, who named their winery in honor of Professor Saintsbury.

Bright full red. Higher-pitched on the nose than the Toyon Farm, offering aromas of raspberry, cherry, spices, earth and dill. Juicy and light on its feet, with enticing perfume and floral lift to its flavors of fresh cherry, spices and herbs. Subtly fruity, suave, classically dry pinot, finishing with very fine tannins and dark spices.
This sleek, focused Pinot is well-built, with complex notes of tangy berry, mineral, cedar and fresh earth. Most interesting on the finish. Drink now through 2018.
The 2009 Pinot Noir Stanly Ranch is made in a more linear, focused style, with less overt fruit and greater emphasis on structure. Dark red fruit, flowers, mint and minerals are some of the notes that flow from this energetic Pinot. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2017.
