Saint-Veran 'Les Charmones' 2015

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a local shop [www.boroughwines.co.uk] for £12. Saint Veran is an appellation created in 1971, although viticulture has been carried out in the area since at least the Romans, for white wines made of the chardonnay grape from 8 communes in the southern part of the Maconais region of Burgundy. Some of the communes produce reds sold under Beaujolais appellations but Saint Veran is regarded as more prestigious than Beaujolais blanc. My bottle is from the small family concern of Domaine Thomas and is made from a parcel of old vines and aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks.I started my bottle last night with my supper of cold chicken and salad. It is a dry wine with some melon, peach and sour pear style fruit and a suggestion of citrus especially on the finish but not even a hint. of vanilla or butter. In short it was fairly mineral as opposed to fruity but a good accompaniment to the salad.
