Saint-Joseph 'Offerus' Jean-Louis Chave Rhone Medium Bodied Syrah/Shiraz 2004

Member Review by happyrobot:

This is super vegetal/green/earthy all sorts of funk when first opened but after breathing is a divine spicy and complex wine. Pepper, slight earth, and a mysterious savoriness that I had a hard time place but enjoyed the process of trying to figure it out. Is there a bit of chocolate on the finish? Let me go check.

St. Joseph sits opposite Hermitage on the other side of the Rhône River. Here one can find good quality Syrahs most often for a better price. Chave practices very traditional winemaking and makes a very classical St. Joseph - big and full bodied with a great dose of game, earthiness all the while being floral on the finish.
