What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

An acknowledged icon of the Barossa, St. Hallett Old Block is an elegant and seamless Shiraz widely recognized as world class. It is derived purely from low cropping old vines of 60 to over 100 years of age. Reminiscent of a big, old-fashioned California Zinfandel, with dark, ripe fruit flavors and a hint of volatility as the finish keeps ringing. Drink this with a hearty chunk of rare roast. Drink now through 2014. Wine Spectator 91 Points

St Hallett Faith is vibrant and expressive and above all quintessential Barossa. An accessible, benchmark Barossa Shiraz. Faith's vibrant yet dense purple hue hints at the generosity of fruit within. The wine derives exuberant raspberry, cherry and spice flavours from vineyards in the southern part of the Barossa Valley and pepper from its Eden Valley component. The wine is matured for 12-15 months in American and French oak, the former matching the juicy fruit succulence of the Barossa Valley fruit and the latter suiting the peppery Eden Valley fruit.

A great wine to say the least, nice fruit weight, oak and power... and, surprinsingly, with finesse! this wine is everything Barossa Shiraz is famous for!
