Saint Esprit Cote du Rhone Delas 2009
The first bottle (January 2012) was disappointing and angular without the enticing fruit and spice of a Syrah-dominated blend (70%). However, a second tasting (December 2012) shows much better: the nose remains muted with some cherry cola peeking through, but the entry is far more satisfying. There is a more balanced sense of grip with grainy tannin plus a nice fruit flan finish. The flavor profile might be described as slightly gritty cassis with unripe cherry. 87 points
this wine doesn't taste bad, it's just watery, boring, and flat; the nose is non-existent, slight minerality.... why are they making this wine?
My rating 84. Simple , not very attractive wine that would be OK on a hot summer day in the Provence but objectively nothing special and highly overpriced.

The brilliant 2009 Cotes du Rhone St.-Esprit is the best Cotes du Rhone I have ever tasted from Delas. Seventy percent Syrah, twenty percent Grenache and the rest Carignan and Mourvedre, this wine comes primarily form the Cotes du Rhone village of Cairanne. The wine has great fruit and a sweet raspberry and black cherry nose with some herbs, licorice, and pepper.
