What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

Grapes : 100% Syrah

Soil : Limestony sands, red clay and galets roulés

Aging : Aged in vats

The “galets roulés” (rolling stones !!!) from the hills in the Gard and the red clay from Vinsobres produced an exceptionnal quality in the vintage 2007 !

The final blend is explosive with an intense colour, a meaty texture and it’s more about eating a wine than drinking it !!!... We get some fruit, some happy aromas jumping out of the glass!!.. Great example for a very good price. Nice earthy minerality and a hint of spice. Anise and musty blackberry notes. The fruit is quite minimal. Finishes clean with a relatively light but elegant body. A geat lunchtime red!

Dark berries with wood and a little dust. Medium body with firm tannins that lend a nice dryness to the wine. The acidity here gives good definition and completes a well-balanced structure. I have to say I would like this wine to have a little more spice to it like some previous vintages from Saint Cosme have had, but this is still a well made Cotes du Rhone.

100% Syrah. The final blend is explosive with an intense colour, a meaty texture and it's more about eating a wine than drinking it. When someone loves his work, mother nature usually gives back. The story of our Cotes du Rhone is as simple as that. Smoked meat, raspberry, humid forest, black pepper. The 2007 Cotes du Rhone (100% Syrah) reveals excellent notes of blackberries and charcoal, medium to full-bodied, opulent flavors, beautiful freshness and length, and no hard edges. I was not as impressed with the 2007 as I was with the 2005. Still this wine is very enjoyable and unique. Medium mouthfeel with a very familiar black pepper aroma. Notes of earth, cassis, and black pepper but not nearly the spice of the early vintage (2005). Backgrounds of dark berry fruits and tame tannins. Very good with food. I will keep trying different vintages of this Syrah.
