Neal and Judy Ibbotson were pioneers in the Marlborough wine industry, first planting vineyards in the valley in 1978 and then establishing Saint Clair Estate in 1994. They own 100 hectares of vineyards in six different Marlborough locations chosen specifically for the attributes of their individual locations and ability to produce top quality grapes. Neal Ibbotson combines his extensive viticultural expertise with the talent of one of New Zealand’s leading winemaking teams, led by Matt Thomson and Hamish Clark From 1994 when wines from the first vintage all won medals including gold, the name Saint Clair has been synonymous with quality and its award-winning record continues today. Grapes : 100% Riesling Region : New Zealand / Marlborough Maker : Matt Thomson Notes : This light bodied easy drinking wine shows distinct Riesling characters of ripe lime and grapefruit. The wine has a distinct mineral note and good fruit weight, which follows through with well balanced acidity and a round, smooth pleasing finish. A light bodied easy drinking wine showing distinct Riesling characters of ripe limes and grapefruit. The grapes were picked at night at the peak of flavour development and each batch was tank fermented separately at cool temperatures using yeasts strains selected to retain freshness and intensity of fruit flavour. After ferment each batch was assessed for quality and only premium batches were used for this blend. The resulting wine was balanced, stabilised and prepared for bottling under screwcap. Vintage: 2009 Grapes: 100% Riesling Wine Maker: Matt Thomson Aroma: Bright citrus aromas of sweet lime and a touch of mandarin leap from the glass, with subtle hints of fresh spring flowers. Palate: This light bodied easy drinking wine shows distinct Riesling characters of ripe lime and grapefruit. The wine has a distinct mineral note and good fruit weight, which follows through with well balanced acidity and a round, smooth pleasing finish. Serve: Enjoy on its own or match with fresh seafood, roast pork with apple sauce, or lightly spiced Thai curries.
