In the glass, the wine had a light pale yellow color. 13% was the label listed ABV. The bouquet was mind-blowing! Very intense aromas of passionfruit, a bit of blackcurrant, hints of elderflower as well as a some minerals. The passionfruit was incredible. I do not think that I have had a similar nose on a white wine before. After taking a sip, I noticed tropical fruits (including mango and once again passionfruit). The palate was quite similar to the bouquet. There was also a slight mineral touch. The finish was persistently long with lots of passionfruit. Pioneer Block 1 Foundation Sauvignon Blanc was simply perfect. Tasting notes from Vino in Love: http://www.vinoinlove.com

Previously part of Wairau Flood Plain (which built up the deep free-draining soils). This is the vineyard where Saint Clair discovered the fruit to make the now world famous Wairau Reserve. The fruit was sourced from a single vineyard owned by the Sowman family on the fertile, free-draining soils of the lower Wairau Valley. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and harvested in the cool of the evening at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness. Vintage: 2009 Grapes: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Wine Maker: Matt Thomson Aroma: Powerful and intense aromas of passionfruit, blackcurrant, hints of grapefruit and an underlying mineral note. Palate: This is an intense Sauvignon Blanc with a powerful passionfruit and blackcurrant spectrum and an underlying mineral tone. The palate is intensely concentrated and full with a long, lingering finish. Serve: An ideal match with fresh Marlborough salmon or scallops with summer salad.
