Sagrantino Montefalco Ris. 25 Anni Caprai Caprai Arnaldo Vino Rosso 2005
Wine Advocate Review Rated 87 Caprai''s Montefalco Rosso, the entry-level wine, is made of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Sagrantino. Although the wine is clearly made to be enjoyed on the young side, in exceptional vintages the Rosso is also capable of developing quite nicely in bottle. The 2005 Montefalco Rosso offers up sweet scents of tobacco and earthiness intermingled with red fruit in a smaller scaled style than either the 2006 or 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.
A light ruby red colour with a neat super packed, sucker punch nose. Giving up all the red berries and vanilla in typical Sangiovese style, which it should, the wine is a blended 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino, 15% Merlot show stopper. Succulent, full bodied palate, good long finish, easy drinking and exceptional QPR.
Made up of 85% Sagrantino and 15% Sangiovese this Umbria production is a great value from one of Italy's premier producers. Good balance, medium body red berry , with good minerality and earthiness. This wine is drinking well now but I wouldn't hestitate to celler it for a few years.
