The former Staton Hills Winery is hitting its stride under the ownership of the Chalone Wine Group of Napa, Calif. This superb effort is a deliciously rich, long-finishing red showing cherries, berries, vanilla and chocolate aromas and flavors

In making the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sagelands handled the grapes gently throughout crushing, maceration and pressing. They blended Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from diverse origins to take advantage of each vineyard's unique character. Integrating a small amount of traditional Bordeaux varietals like Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot allows Sagelands to create a complex and versatile mosaic. The Merlot softens the palate, the Malbec adds fruit and color and the Petit Verdot brings a touch of blueberry and fine tannins. The wine is very approachable now and will continue to gain complexity read more...
