From my perspective, this bottle represents one of the most exciting new white wines we have picked up this year! This wine delivers big, mouth-filling flavors of ripe spiced apples, peaches, and a soft cast of minerals. Toward the finish, therersquo;s just the right amount of acidity to keep the wine refreshing. I have thoroughly enjoyed this wine on its own, and as the ldquo;essencerdquo; of a great meal.

The Prüm family has roots in Mosel region of Germany that date back as far as 1156, making it one the country’s preeminent winemaking dynasties. The current estate, now a century old and located in Wehlen in the heart of the Mosel, has been under the direction of Raimund Prum since 1971. Under his leadership and the involvement of his daughter Saskia, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings in a range of styles that satisfy and please every palate. Production Area This estate-bottled, single-vineyard Riesling Spätlese (late harvest) is produced from grapes grown in the prestigious Graacher Himmelreich vineyard in Germany’s middle Mosel region. The soils in this vineyard are comprised of blue/gray slate. The altitude is 450-600 feet. The vines are an average of 60 to 70 years old, are ungrafted (original rootstock), single vine training, and reach up to 50’ deep. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification Grapes were hand-selected. Fermentation is with wild yeast, in stainless steel tanks, and no malolactic fermentation. The resulting wine was refined in tank 6 months then bottled. Color Bright, vibrant gold Bouquet Delicate aromas of rose petals and citrus blossoms Taste Flavors of peach, melon, apple and ginger spice mingling with mineral nuances. Full bodied, with a long, balanced finish Alcohol 8% Serving Suggestions Delicious with lobster, shrimp and spicy Thai-style dishes, as well as blue cheeses, creamy cheeses, fruit desserts and fresh fruit.
Raimond Pruuml;mrsquo;s 2004 Essence is better than his successful 2003. Itrsquo;s a big, forceful mouthful of Riesling, filled with ripe apple and pear flavors that ends on a harmonious off-dry note of citrus.
A consistent value and Premier favorite, loaded with apricot, peach and juicy red apple fruit flavors. Incredibly aromatic, while lively and refreshing on the palate, the Essence is essential for Chinese take-out night!
