Baked apple with a hint of peach and apricot on the nose. Well balanced with decent acidity. Had it with a Ceasar salad and it actually paired pretty well. I ordered another bottle for the wine cellar.

The Prüm family has roots in Mosel region of Germany that date back as far as 1156, making it one the country’s preeminent winemaking dynasties. The current estate, now a century old and located in Wehlen in the heart of the Mosel, has been under the direction of Raimund Prum since 1971. Under his leadership and the involvement of his daughter Saskia, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings in a range of styles that satisfy and please every palate. Production Area This estate-bottled, single-vineyard Riesling Spätlese (late harvest) is produced from grapes grown in the prestigious Graacher Himmelreich vineyard in Germany’s middle Mosel region. The soils in this vineyard are comprised of blue/gray slate. The vines are an average of 60 to 70 years old, are ungrafted (original rootstock), and reach up to 50’ deep. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed. After extended maceration on the skins (to lower acidity and round out the structure of the wine) and a fermentation with wild yeast, the resulting wine was refined in stainless steel tanks then bottled. Color Bright, pale gold with green reflections Bouquet White peaches, apricots, lemon, pineapple and lilac. Taste Stone fruit flavors, baked apple and mineral notes with an elegant, rich texture and racy structure. Alcohol 7.5% Serving Suggestions Delicious with lobster, shrimp and spicy Thai-style dishes, as well as blue cheeses, creamy cheeses, apple pie and fresh fruit.

A lovely effort from proprietor Raimund PRUuml;m, this plump, creamy-textured Spauml;tlese displays ample minerality mdash; therersquo;s a distinctly slate-driven note mdash; allied to ripe apple, stone fruit and citrus. Sweet but not overwhelmingly so, this would be terrific with slightly sweet or spicy dishes.

This wine is the color of white gold. Sweet peaches and citrus flavors are carried along the palate by the rich acidity. This wine has some weight, almost like petrol, giving this Spauml;tlese some kick. The finish is fruity, and honey seems to linger.

An almost confectionary sense of sweetness and ripeness pervades the Prum 2009 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese, making it something of an exception in a vintage collection generally noteworthy for the restraint of residual sugar.
