This is the best riesling I have consumed to date. It has a great balance to it with a lot of fruit flavor. Not dry like a lot of riesling's instead well balanced sweetness with just the right acidity taste. A great find at Costco for under $20. Just don't tell everyone because it will be gone in a flash when everyone finds out how good a bottle of wine this is.

Raimund Pranduuml;m blends this entry-level riesling from various sites in the Mosel Valley. Pranduuml;mandrsquo;s rich, ripe style contrasts perfectly here with the crisp acidity of the vintage, making for a refreshing summer aperitif.

The Prüm family has roots in Mosel region of Germany that date back as far as 1156, making it one the country’s preeminent winemaking dynasties. The current estate, now a century old and located in Wehlen in the heart of the Mosel, has been under the direction of Raimund Prum since 1971. Under his leadership and the involvement of his daughter Saskia, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings in a range of styles that satisfy and please every palate. Production Area This estate-bottled Riesling is produced from grapes grown in the Graacher Dompropst Erste Lage (First Growth) single vineyard in Germany’s Mosel region. This gray slate vineyard is the steepest vineyard in Graach. Its south-to-southwest orientation makes it hot and humid giving the grapes perfect quality, minerality and ripeness. This estate-bottled Erste Lage (First Growth) Riesling is produced from grapes grown in the Graacher Dompropst single vineyard in Germany’s Mosel region. Grosse Gewächs is a dry style from first growth vineyards. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification Grapes are hand-harvested mid-October. Fermentation in stainless steel lasted for 4 months sur lie with an additional 10 months in tank or old oak barrels before bottling. Color Vibrant gold Bouquet Complex aromas with slate and mineral tones Taste Full-bodied, rich, smooth, creamy texture backed by firm acidity. Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions Outstanding with savory meats such as duck, goose, veal and turkey, as well as rich seafood such as lobster and monkfish. Also delicious with blue cheeses.

Wine Tasting NotesAromatic, with scents of apricot and peach. Fresh fruit flavors perfectly balanced by a racy acidity and mineral character.

A wonderful introduction to off-dry Riesling; soft, with citrus and stone fruit flavors followed by fresh acidity.

Production Area This estate-bottled, single-vineyard Riesling Spätlese (late harvest) is produced from grapes grown in the prestigious Graacher Himmelreich vineyard in Germany’s middle Mosel region. The soils in this vineyard are comprised of blue/gray slate. The altitude is 450-600 feet. The vines are an average of 60 to 70 years old, are ungrafted (original rootstock), single vine training, and reach up to 50’ deep. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification Grapes were hand-selected. Fermentation is with wild yeast, in stainless steel tanks, and no malolactic fermentation. The resulting wine was refined in tank 6 months then bottled under Stelvin closure. Color Bright, vibrant gold Bouquet Delicate floral aromas and citrus fruit Taste Rich and creamy, with flavors of stone fruit (white peach), golden pears and honey mingling with mineral nuances and culminating in a long, lively, balanced finish Alcohol 8.5% Serving Suggestions Delicious with lobster, shrimp and spicy Thai-style dishes, as well as blue cheeses, creamy cheeses, fruit desserts and fresh fruit.
