S.a. Prüm Riesling Essence 2006
aromatic combination of gasoline, sweet peaches, and honey. Very complex and interesting on the palate, wonderful concentration of fruit, balance of acidity, and lingering mouthfeel
Nice stone fruit and grapefruit but very little sweetness. Firm acidity. Cool, short, almost minty finish. A very nice wine, but pales in comparison to the 08 Dr. L Loosen I tasted at the same time. Would be happy to drink this again though!
fruity, acidic, yum
So delicious. I almost hate to drink it when I am eating.... although it is certainly great paired with lighter fare. Perfect for sipping throughout an evening of good company and conversation. A definite winner at our house; when we find it we must buy two bottles!

The Prüm family has roots in Mosel region of Germany that date back as far as 1156, making it one the country’s preeminent winemaking dynasties. The current estate, now a century old and located in Wehlen in the heart of the Mosel, has been under the direction of Raimund Prum since 1971. Under his leadership and the involvement of his daughter Saskia, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings in a range of styles that satisfy and please every palate. Production Area This estate-bottled, single-vineyard Riesling is produced from grapes grown in the famed gray slate soil of the renowned Wehlener Sonnenuhr which has recently been designated an Erste Lage – or top vineyard site by the VDP. The gray slate soils of the Sonnenuhr (sundial) vineyard have a high tin content which lends minerality to the wines. Ancestor Jodocus Prüm erected the famous sundial in 1842, which became a hallmark for the mid-Mosel area. The soil of this famous domain is comprised of Devonian gray slate, and soft slate with a high tin content, which adds a distinctive, fresh minerality to the wines. This is the best vineyard in the Mosel River, with a southerly aspect. The altitude is between 425-1100 feet, with a steep 60% slope. The mountains’ treeline, rising above the vineyards, blocks cold winds from entering the valley. Grape Varieties 100% Riesling Vinification Perfectly over-ripened, botrytis-affected grapes are individually, hand-selected and harvested late October. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks, then rests in tank before bottling the following March. Color Gold Bouquet Sweet nectarine, apricot and candied peaches Taste Complex fruit aromas carry through onto the palate, where they blend seamlessly with caramel notes and traces of slate, underscored by a bracing acidity Alcohol 8.2% Serving Suggestions Exceptional on its own or paired with pâtés, foie gras and creamy cheeses.
This is already very approachable and developed for such a young wine, with juicy, creamy fruit and an herbal, petrol-like minerality that seems pleasantly oldfashioned.
This wine is the color of white gold. Sweet peaches and citrus flavors are carried along the palate by the rich acidity. This wine has some weight, almost like petrol, giving this Spätlese some kick. The finish is fruity, and honey seems to linger. Food pairing: Asian, spicy foods Flavor type: semi-dry Body type: light-medium Finish: rich

A concentrated Riesling, yet reined in, with lime, honeysuckle, apricot and mineral notes. Powerful, with a long, lingering aftertaste and stony freshness. Drink now through 2025.
This is a rather bulky kabinett (9% abv) with plenty of residual sugar, but itrsquo;s soft and charming at the same time. Honeyed aromas lead the way, followed up by hints of bergamot, tea and plenty of slate-derived minerality.
Complex and scintillating aromas and flavors of black currant, violet, lime and mineral mesh seamlessly with the lovely structure and silky texture. Fine length and juicy aftertaste. To be released May 2006. Drink now through 2025.
